Louisville Ballet… with Lasers
On Oct.14-15 of 2016, Lapis Laser Display, LLC and the Louisville Ballet teamed up for a very special version of the classic ballet, Swan Lake. In this version, the entire set was made with 15 high-powered lasers placed strategically around the theater, with only minimal stage lighting for visibility. Throughout the ballet, the lasers not only created the backdrop, but interacted with the dancers. Color changes, shapes, and movements from the lasers were used to create the mood, and also act as physical objects for the set. The Evil Sorcerer, Rothbart, was actually represented by a ‘green’ laser light instead of a traditional actor.
